Senior Communications Officer
Contract: Permanent (37hours)
Salary: £36,534 - £47,646 per annum

The council’s new Communication Strategy seeks to enable well-informed and engaged residents, an improved perception of the council and its services, and pride in Thurrock the place, reflecting the overall ambition to meet current and future aspirations.
To achieve this we need a confident, innovative, multi-skilled communications team to lead delivery, working with services, senior managers, councillors and partners.
Following a restructure, new roles have been created to ensure a proactive focus on getting the right messages to the right audiences at the right time, promoting our many successes and future plans, and developing our approach to digital communications.
We are looking for an experienced communications officer to join the team, to help embed and deliver the strategy and drive forward the council’s approach.
The Senior Communications Officer will have demonstrable experience of delivering high profile external campaigns, providing advice to senior managers, councillors and services, and handling media enquiries. The role involves some attendance at evening meetings and on-call cover out of hours.
The role requires:
• Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate marketing and communication plans and activity
• Excellent project management and organisation skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships across a wide range of contacts
• Ability to work under pressure, determine priorities and progress a variety of tasks
• Able to work as a team member and to help to deliver team goals
• Politically astute, sensitive, tactful and diplomatic
