Strategic Lead – Communications
Contract: Permanent (37hours)
Salary: £56,820 - £71,328 per annum

The council’s new Communication Strategy seeks to enable well-informed and engaged residents, an improved perception of the council and its services, and pride in Thurrock the place, reflecting the overall ambition to meet current and future aspirations.
To achieve this we need a confident, innovative, multi-skilled communications team to lead delivery, working with services, senior managers, councillors and partners.
Following a restructure, new roles have been created to ensure a proactive focus on getting the right messages to the right audiences at the right time, promoting our many successes and future plans, and developing our approach to digital communications.
We are looking for an experienced and credible communications manager to lead the team, working closely with the Director and Chief Executive to drive forward the council’s approach. The Strategic Lead: Communications will need to have significant demonstrable experience of planning, co-ordinating and implementing communication and marketing activity ensuring key messages are consistently applied, using the full range of communication channels and tools including liaison with the media.
A key part of the role will be to embed the principles within the strategy, develop and deliver an action plan underpinning it, and lead and motivate the communications team, enabling new ways of working. You will have:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent programme and project management skills
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships across a wide range of contacts
• Ability to work under pressure, determine priorities and progress a variety of tasks
• Politically astute, sensitive, tactful and diplomatic.
