Social Media Officer
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Salary: Maximum £31,925 + great benefits
Full time, permanent
Closing date: 19 March 2018
Strong interest in international affairs, diplomacy and the work of the Government around the world? First class editorial judgement? This is an excellent opportunity to drive forward our digital communications.
In the Foreign Office Communication Directorate you will develop, plan and create social content focusing on the daily and breaking news agenda. The breadth of issues you will cover is unparalleled - from British nationals caught in crisis, Middle East peace and to international conferences and visits by world leaders. Creating a full range of multimedia assets, including original video, graphics and editorial content, you will also advise on the social media strategy and work with Ministers, staff and stakeholders around the world to ensure they are using social media effectively. You will join the FCO's Digital Transformation Unit and work in partnership with its Media Office. As real time editorial leadership becomes increasingly important in creating breaking news, views and information, your work will have high visibility and real impact.
Creative and curious, you are a digital enthusiast with a talent for content production. More than that, you have a good understanding of current affairs and a sound knowledge of the FCO's international audiences. Along with experience in producing social media content, you will need to show us your clear, fluent writing style and ability to produce strong headlines, summaries and promotional text. You have a sound knowledge of social media practices and keep up to date with digital trends in media and emerging technologies. Experience in picture research and image editing, using Adobe Photoshop, is essential, while video editing skills would be useful. You will also have exceptional communication skills, along with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities.
