Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is seeking an experienced all-round media and communications specialist with a proven track record of delivering multi-channel priority communication campaigns, along with dealing with local, regional and national media on a proactive and reactive basis. This is a very exciting opportunity, being offered initially on a 12 month fixed term contract with potential for that to be extended in the future.
A key part of the role will be to ensure that the council is effectively defending and enhancing its reputation through both traditional and social media. You will identify opportunities for generating positive media coverage through the appropriate medium and be a key part of the team delivering impactful external communication campaigns on a range of major projects and issues.
The successful candidate will preferably have a relevant professional qualification or three years equivalent experience of working on fully integrated and multi-channel campaigns, and media relations experience. They will be an effective communicator and able to provide effective and timely guidance to colleagues, using evaluation and evidence to influence their choice of appropriate communication channel. The ability to understand complex and controversial issues and be able to explain those to the media and public in a clear and concise way would be an advantage. This post will require all-round communication skills, including digital and social media, marketing, and external communications.
