Senior Communications and Campaigns Officer
Barking and Dagenham Council
Salary: £39,774 - £42,681
Hours per week: 35
Full Time - Permanent
Interview Date: w/c 6 September 2019
Closing date: 18 August 2019
Come and Join the LGC Entrepreneurial Council of the Year and help us improve outcomes for our residents.
Barking and Dagenham is changing fast - 9 out of 10 of our schools are good or outstanding, we’re bringing Hollywood to London by building the capital’s biggest film studio and we’re winning awards left, right and centre.
Underneath all the good news we still have lots of challenges. Compared to the rest of London, outcomes for our residents are still lower than we want them to be in a range of areas, from health to employment. But we’re shifting our relationship with residents, getting to the heart of their issues, and supporting them to find their own solutions instead of just providing our services the way we always have.
Our communications team is at the heart of all this, helping us connect and reconnect with residents new and old. The Communications and Campaigns Officer will not only help us tell our story locally, in a way that resonates with our residents, but to the rest of the world by securing strong media coverage.
We are looking for a strong all-rounder who can not only design and deliver perception and behaviour change campaigns, with support from our Campaigns Manager, but also use a full range of communications channels to reach different audiences. The role will be really varied and needs someone who can adjust quickly to different challenges. No two days will be the same – the successful candidate could be asked to go from ghost-writing an article to advising a member about a media interview, or responding to a resident about their missed bin on social media.
Local government experience is not essential but enthusiasm, good people skills, creativity and the ability to sell-in to the media are. This is a really exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to make this role their own.
Interviews will be held on w/c 6 September 2019.
