Specialist: Communications, Engagement & Marketing
Wokingham Borough Council
Fixed Term Contract - one year with future possible opportunities
Wokingham Borough Council is looking for someone to join its Communications, Engagement and Marketing (CEM) Team to work on the communications and engagement for the strategic housing and infrastructure development in the borough, as well as the opportunity to work on the communications and engagement for our emerging Local Plan.
Wokingham Borough is an ever-popular place to live, with a strong economy and high quality of life. This popularity causes a huge challenge to provide the homes we need and are required to build.
This role will provide the right candidate an exciting opportunity to lead on one of the most important issues the borough faces. Experience with planning and/or development communications and engagement is desirable.
The CEM team is responsible for planning and delivering the council’s CEM strategy to ensure we reach everybody in the borough with our messages, that we have genuine two-way dialogue with residents and that we present ourselves in the most open, honest and positive way possible.
We are looking for people with new, innovative ideas on how to communicate the great things we do and how to engage beyond the ‘usual suspects’ in order to get to the harder to reach groups.
You will work across the organisation with senior officers and members on all aspects of the council’s work; from making sure our successes are celebrated to giving difficult messages in the right way.
You will be responsible for developing and delivering Communications and Engagement plans through activities such as communicating via social media, copy writing (for WBC publications and news releases), running engagement events and responding to media enquiries. This will necessitate close working with executive members, senior officers, partners and stakeholders.
You will have the ability to:
• Communicate effectively using a wide range of methods, including through media releases, social media, newsletters and news articles
• Deliver cohesive CEM plans in collaboration with colleagues that enhance the reputation of WBC and help create two-way dialogue with residents and stakeholders
• Plan and deliver effective engagement with residents and stakeholders to ensure they are informed and involved in strategic planning issues
• Work to tight deadlines and to communicate difficult and complex messages in clear and concise ways
Wokingham Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff, other workers and volunteers to share this commitment.
