commsflab - a pre-christmas chat for higher education comms

Some bright sparks in Higher Education comms have started a slack group and have a meet-up in Manchester. If that's for you, you should go.

by Julie Waddicor and Kim Graakjaer

We just wanted to keep you up to date on what we've been up to with Commsflab and let you know about the next meet up we have planned. It was great to meet some of you at our first meeting in the Foundation Coffee House in Manchester – we had lots of good chat and made lots of new connections.

At the first meeting we talked about setting up an online Slack group to help keep people connected and talking in between meetings (plus help those who cannot make the meetings to be part of the action!) We now have that group set up so if you want to join in, email Kim directly at kim.graakjaer@manchester.ac.uk with your email address and we'll send you an invite to sign up.

The next Commsflab will be on Tuesday 5 December at the University of Manchester. We know that not everyone can make events after work, so we're holding this one from 3.30pm to run up until 5pm.

The discussions this time will be around:

·          Social media – how do you use it (to what audience/purpose)? Do you use analytics tools to measure and adapt, what content types work for you?

·          Feedback (student/staff) – how do you collect it, what happens with it and how do you communicate outcomes back?

·          Awards - have you put in for any either this year? What for, how did you find writing the case, what benefits did it bring?

We'd love to see you there - you can register your place now through Eventbrite.

Kim Graakjaer is Marketing and Communications Manager at The University of Manchester.

Julie Waddicor is Head of Student Experience and Engagement at The University of Salford.
