all aboard for another talking comms podcast

Episode four of the finest communications podcast in the land is here. And it features everything from award-winning comms to GDPR, and social media insight, creative thinking and the Commonwealth Games. Oh, and some squirrels…

by Adrian Stirrup

I’m writing this Talking Comms blog post in front of the Eurovision Song Contest Semi-Final so forgive me if I get a little distracted…

It’s the usual cavalcade of outrageous voices and gaudy outfits… BUT ENOUGH ABOUT ME, DARREN AND OUR PODCAST GUESTS.

This latest Talking Comms Podcast has been a few months in the making so sorry to all those people who’ve been patiently asking when it’s coming out. Life and work have a habit of getting in the way.

So what’s in this episode? We chat about where comms people have their most creative thoughts, following on from a Twitter vote and blog post from Darren (Beware: this section features a surprise rodent!)

We also chat to John-Paul Danon from the Council Advertising Network about the challenges and opportunities of GDPR. It’s worth hearing what he has to say on making the most of your customer database after 25 May.

Social media on your mind? Hear from Stuart Banbery from SocialSignIn about a brand new guide, based on insight, trends and data from the largest ever social media study into the public sector.

And for all you sporty types, Birmingham is hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2022. But what part does the city council comms team play? Eleri Roberts, Assistant Director for Communications at Birmingham City Council gives us a fascinating sneak peek behind the scenes.

Thanks to all this episode’s guests – and do get in touch if you want to hear yourself on a future episode. We’re always keen to hear your ideas and suggestions for content. Feel free to invite us to events. Darren and I will try to come along if we can!

Our email is talkingcommspod@gmail.com or tweet us at @talkingcommspod.

So ‘all aboard’ for this episode and we hope you enjoy it (ooh, ahh) just a little bit.

p.s. keep on listening after the end for our now usual ‘funny outtake
