I was 100% decided. I knew before the election was declared exactly who I'd vote for. My decision was primarily tactical based on what I think is best for the country, but also aligned with my personal values. It was all sewn up.

Until a good friend said, "I thought you'd vote for X". By 'X', she meant more alignment to the things that are most important to me, deep down, in my heart.
This caused me to question what I thought had been a decision already made. By voting the way I'd intended, was I as closely aligned with my personal values and speaking up for the things I hold dearest, as I want to be. Truth be told, I didn't know.
So I've set about finding out. I'm not a fan the shouty, aggressive debates, so instead I've sought out some useful resources that assess election promises and manifestos - for what they're worth, which I'm sure is a whole other blog post! Here are a few tools that I'm using to help find that balance between civic duty, deep personal values and policies that work for me practically.
I really LOVE this from the BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cxeez8271nvo Simply select the policy area/s you're most interested in to see the differences and similarities between the main parties. There's also this from Who Gets My Vote, which picks up more on some of the policy headlines we've heard so much in the last few weeks; https://whogetsmyvote.org/ It asks a series of questions and gives a short 'report' on the party or parties you're most closely aligned to in terms of key promises and policies. Clever! My latest find is https://voteforpolicies.org.uk/. I'm giving that a go imminently and will report back on LI, as I have with the other two above.
Lastly, as an advocate for the public sector and local government in particular, it would be remiss of me not to mention the LGA's election toolkit, complete with policy round up relevant to the local gov space. It's here, if you've not yet seen it: https://www.local.gov.uk/about/campaigns/general-election-hub
So, will I change my voting intentions? I don't yet know. Will heart or head tip the balance for me? I've not decided. But I am grateful for this array of info to help me decide. I hope it helps some of you too, if, like me, you're still undecided and battling with the "but how do I make my mind up?" debate. Good luck, let me know if they help and above all, use your vote on 4th July.
