Well another year is almost done and boy it’s been full of twists and turns hasn’t it. For me, Christmas is always a time to reflect on work and personal experiences across the year. So here’s my quick take.

Does anyone else have a mental merging of 2020 and 2021 now?
I sometimes struggle to remember what happened last year versus what happened this year. Holidays used to be a great definer, but I haven’t left the UK since well before covid hit our shores.
Now, I try to recall things by plotting whether it was pre or post lockdown 1, 2 or 3, eating out to help out, ‘Christmas isn’t cancelled/oh actually it is’, and now Plan B and whatever we’ll be left with, following Boxing Day.
One thing does remain a constant, though, and that is the importance of gratitude. For the things we do have rather than the things we may have missed out on.
So, this is a small way of saying some thank you’s to just a small slice of people who have done amazing things.
Of course there’s the NHS. But there are many others too - care workers and teachers, the emergency services and council workers, charity workers and volunteers, shop workers and lorry drivers, and many, many others running our essential services. Thank you to them all.
The group of course we all know and love well is the communications community.
You’ve all done another amazing job this year and completed the hardest 18 months to have ever worked in comms. Thank you for keeping us informed, for some very much against the odds at times too.
Thank you, you’re amazing.
I hope you all get a restful and fun Christmas. And to those covering rotas across the festive period I hope you get the quietest of times.
I’d also like to thank all of the teams and individuals who I have worked with in 2021.
It’s an absolute privilege to have been able to work with so many organisations across local government, central government, NHS, police, housing, education, NGOs and others. We did some good work together and I learned from you all in the process. Thank you.
I’ll see you in 2022 but for now switch off your phones, emails, laptops and social media for as long as you can over Christmas and go spend time with your loved ones.
Merry Christmas 🎅
