Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for a proactive person to help us grow our communications and marketing activity, supporting our 2,000+ members and helping us meet our business objectives.
Whether you’re a recent graduate, have administrative experience, or are looking for a career change, you don’t necessarily need a grounding in communications or marketing, but must have excellent writing skills and an eye for detail.
Confident in handling a varied workload, you’ll be comfortable collaborating with a range of colleagues, helping draft, design and distribute content to our members and stakeholders across different channels.
Happy to handle routine administrative tasks, you’ll also be flexible enough to pitch in when asked, taking on short notice requests and prioritising your workload.
One of your first projects will be helping develop our new website. You’ll be part of the project team getting the site ready for launch, making sure content looks and reads as it should, and site visitors can easily find what they’re looking for.
You’ll also help us support our members through a new round of legislative change, including votes at 16, changes to voter ID and local government reorganisation in many parts of England.
You don’t need to have a local government background or know how elections are run, but you must be willing to learn. We take staff development seriously and will fund relevant training for you, both around elections and to develop your communication and marketing skills. We’ll also fund membership fees to a relevant professional body.
There is no requirement for applicants to be an AEA member and members are encouraged to share details of this vacancy with non-members.
Rewards and other details
The postholder will be contracted based on an annualised hours working contract, equivalent to 37 hours or five days per week. The post is offered on a permanent basis and is homebased.
Our annualised hours contract allows our staff flexibility over their working hours, although the expectation is you generally work office hours Monday to Friday. You must be available as required, and on occasion travel away from home to our Annual Conference and other events.
A salary of £27,742.78 will be paid and all necessary work-related expenses will be reimbursed, and a standard homeworking equipment pack will be provided.
Benefits include an employer contributory pension (Aviva scheme), a company sick pay scheme, homeworking support allowance, in-service death benefit, optional medical and critical illness cover, and 25 days annual leave (plus paid statutory public holidays) each year.
