If you’re anything like me a good TV or film recommendation is a handy thing to have. Here are my watches February through April….

Gomorrah (Now TV)
What a magnificent tv series. This story of the drugs gangs of Naples is incredible. The backstabbing (literally) and double dealing is brilliantly done.
It’s pace and ferocity never once relents across all five epic seasons and it’s almost never interweaved with any lighter moments either and I love it for that. 9.5/10
The Batman (Amazon)
If I could be any super hero I’d be the Dark Knight. But this is a pale imitation of the Christopher Nolan epics. I don’t think Pattinson is a bad batman but this movie adds nothing to what has already gone before. 6/10
The Devil’s Hour (Amazon)
Great cast, great acting but I never truly got into this one but I think that’s because I struggle with anything to do with mind bending and time loops. Yes Inception I’m looking at you. 7/10
Heartlands (Amazon)
The always brilliant Martin Sheen stars as an unlucky in love newsagent come dart player whose trip to Blackpool proves something of a turning point in his dreary life 7/10
The Hanging Sun (Now TV)
I liked this. Well I love a bleak Scandi landscape and the chance of a murder so this was right up my street. A hybrid Anglo/Italian offering filmed in Norway. Sounds strange but it worked. And Peter Mullen is in it and he’s always very good. 7/10
Luther: The Fallen Sun (Netflix)
Luther comes to the big screen. Totally daft but fun. Andy Serkis is always a great watch and an excellent baddie. Idris Elba is always very watchable as DCI John Luther too 7/10
One of Us (Now TV)
Psychological thriller set in Scotland, focusing on the aftermath of two childhood sweethearts who are killed on their return from honeymoon. Decent 7/10
John Wick – Chapter 1 (Amazon)
A classic of the revenge movie genre as retired hitman Keanu Reeves gets back into the game to revenge the murder of his dog (a gift from his dead wife) in spectacular style. Great fun 7.5/10
If (Now TV)
My first watching of this cult classic. It must have been truly shocking when it was released in 1968 an sadly its ending foretold the future of horror shootings in US high schools 7/10
Ambulance (Now TV)
7/10 – for the special, effects. Not really my thing but wow there were impressive.
Rain Man (iPlayer)
Still a brilliant movie and interestingly stands the test of time. Hoffman is stellar and Cruise is very good as his wheeler dealer brother who re-finds his heart. 8/10
