If you’re anything like me a good TV or film recommendation is a handy thing to have. Here are my watches in July….

TV
The interrogation of Tony Martin (Netflix)
This was a huge news story which split the nation back in 1999 when a Norfolk farmer shot and killed a burglar in his home. Should he go down for murder or be released as he was defending himself? Steve Pemberton is just so good in everything he does and really does capture him well. Very well done with a great ending 8/10
We Hunt Together (iPlayer)
Now this I really enjoyed and was just about the best thing I saw last month.
Strangers, Freddy and Baba, are thrown together by circumstance, share troubled pasts and spiral into a killing spree to get them out of a tight corner. Much better than I have described it. A neat alternative to the standard fare which seems to be so prevalent on TV right now 8/10
The Replacement (C4)
The always excellent Vicky McClure is incredibly irritating as the maternity cover from hell! Started well but the final episode rapidly fell into the ridiculous 6/10
The Cockfields (iPlayer)
Gentle fun with a great cast and a real Sunday evening watch feel to the whole thing.. Simon, played (by Joe Wilkinson) takes his girlfriend Donna (played by Diane Morgan) to visit his awfully over-bearing parents on the Isle of Wight for his 40th birthday. Bobby Ball is the surprise package and so good as the interfering father-in-law. 7/10
Film
Moon (iPlayer)
Sam Rockwell stars as pretty much the sole cast member in the movie working as a astronaut on the moon who suffers a fatal injury in an accident. I kind of enjoyed it but I did find it a tad confusing 7/10
Red (Amazon)
The great Brian Cox was the only real reason to watch this revenge movie and if you’re a dog lover you should maybe give it a wide berth 6/10
Documentary
The Pez Outlaw (Netflix)
The curious tale of collector, Steve Glew, and his obsession-come business venture, with Pez candy (sweets to us) dispensers.
Good fun, bitter sweet in places, but essentially a David and Goliath story about one man versus a big corporation, Pez smuggling from Eastern Europe into the US, and the highs and lows of the Pez collecting world (underworld?) Who knew? 7/10
