If you’re anything like me a good TV or film recommendation is a handy thing to have. Here are my watches in June….

Cinema
Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse
This one was my boy’s choice for a quiet Sunday morning trip to the flicks. Insanely good graphics and a great soundtrack 7/10
TV
Mare of Easttown (Amazon)
I really enjoyed this and Kate Winslet is excellent and very believable as the grumpy home town detective trying to solve the murder of a local girl. Yes of course there are the usual genre cliches – she has a drinking problem, she’s divorced, she has problem relationships – but it doesn’t spoil it. It felt very Scandi influenced to me with the frequent plot changes. Well worth a watch 7.5/10
Ray Donovan - Season 5 (Now TV)
This one is quite a bleak watch these days and not a lot really happened in this season in truth. If you’ve not seen it it’s the tale of Hollywood fixer, Ray Donovan played by Liev Schreiber and his larger than life Boston-born, Irish Catholic family. John Voight and Eddie Marsan as dad and brother respectively are exceptional and well worth the watch
Film
Sightseers (Amazon)
“Mint me”
If you know, you know 😆
I love this film so much. I don’t want to tell you anything about it if you haven’t seen it because it’s a gem and it will spoil it for you. Just watch it 8/10
A good person (Now TV)
Wow. What performances from everyone but Florence Pugh and Morgan Freeman are superb in this story of a young woman’s life turned upside down in a tragic car crash and her subsequent addiction to pain killers. Very moving, be warned 8/10
Lamb (Amazon)
Stylish and bleak Icelandic folk horror. Very little in the way of dialogue but I loved it and the always watchable Noomi Rapace is the star of the show 7.5/10
The Beach (Amazon)
Do you remember the book being released in 1996? Literally everyone read it. Well the 2000 film is still an entertaining watch after all these years. Leo di Cap looks so young! 7/10
