trust us – we need your help

September 22, 2025 Darren Caveney

We all know that trust is the bedrock of what we do in the public sector. Without it, messages don’t land, communities don’t engage, and the best-intentioned campaigns fall flat. And we’ve all heard the news that ‘trust is at an all time low’. But here’s the thing: how do we really know that? While we talk about trust a lot (and believe me, at Orlo we talk about trust a LOT), how often do we stop to measure it? To really understand what it looks like from inside our own organisations?

That’s exactly what we want to change. We know this is ambitious, and that’s why we need you.

by Helena Hornby

Why we’re asking now

At Orlo, we’ve just launched our shiny new Voice of the Community (VoC) solution, and we’re putting it to work on one of the biggest questions facing public sector teams today: how much do people trust us, and what can we do about it?

Now, Orlo already helps our customers measure trust with our unique Trust Indicator – and it’s giving organisations powerful insights into how their comms are landing. But that can only tell us so much. We want to go wider. Bigger. Bolder. We’re curious about what trust looks like across the whole public sector, and that means hearing directly from the people working on the frontline.

The survey

So, we’ve set up a survey. And not just any survey. We want this to be the biggest public sector survey on trust ever.

Here’s the deal:

  • It’s anonymous. Unless you want to give us your email address at the end to get your hands on the report first. But that’s totally optional.

  • Just six quick questions (ok, nine if you count the demographics).

  • It’ll take you five minutes, probably less. Maybe more if, like me, you flit between tabs and forget what you’re doing halfway through and come back to it 3 hours later.

  • The results will help shape how we understand and improve trust across the public sector.

Who should take part?

Everyone. We want to hear from teachers, nurses, social workers, police officers, paramedics, IT teams, housing officers, council staff, civil servants… anyone working day-to-day to make a difference in their community.

If you’re in comms, you’ve got an extra important role too: please help us spread the word. Share the survey link in your Teams or Slack channels, staff newsletters, or even just by nudging colleagues over coffee. The more voices we gather, the stronger the picture will be.

Why your voice matters

You’re on the frontline. You’re the ones making the difference in communities every day – listening, responding, engaging. Your view matters because you’re connected to people, and if you don’t tell us the real picture, then any effort we make to help you build stronger, more resilient communities won’t be as effective. So, the bigger the response, the more useful the results will be.

What happens next

We’ll be pulling together a full report later this year so you can see exactly what your peers across the country think. But if you’re keen to get an exciting early look, we’ll also be revealing some of the initial findings at Orlo’s BIG Social on 22 October.

Haven’t signed up yet? It’s free to attend, packed with brilliant speakers and sessions, and a great chance to connect with fellow public sector comms pros. Find out more and grab your ticket here.

What we need from you

  1. Take the survey – it’s shorter than your average tea break.

  2. Share it – drop the link into your team chat, include it in your intranet, mention it in meetings. Every share helps.

We can’t wait to see what you think. Let’s make this the moment we stop guessing about trust and start shaping it.
