Inspired by the genius comic, Stewart Lee, I’ve decided to keep a record of all of my TV, film and cinema viewing throughout 2022. Plus, I will write a micro review for each one and list where I watched it.
This has been a very good month after some pretty average offerings recently. Tuck in and find a new watch.

TV
The Staircase (Now TV)
Fabulously played by Colin Firth, The Staircase is the true story of writer, Michael Peterson, convicted of killing his wife (played by the always excellent Tony Collette) Did he do it? Was he innocent? You work it out. 8/10
Slow Horses (Apple TV)
This is another high quality show. Much better than your average spy drama. My word Gary Oldman reminds us of what a great actor he is. Jack Lowden is pretty good too. Season Two is being commissioned so fill your boots with this one 8/10
Defending Jacob (Apple TV)
This one reminded me of something else but the name won’t come to me. The murder of a school boy rocks a small town and where the main suspect is one of his class mates. It’s an OK watch. I think the ending is meant to be a twist but it was pretty predictable. 6/10 (not quite sure how IMDb has it at 7.8 but I guess it’s all subjective)
Film
Chopper (Amazon)
The hard hitting true story of ruthless, low level Australian criminal, Mark ‘Chopper’ Read. Eric Bana in the lead role is stupendous. Like an ‘Australian Bronson’. There’s a couple of real eye-winching moments but don’t let that put you off. The film really doesn’t feel 22 years old 7/10
Greyhound (Apple TV)
I love a good war film. And this is a very good war film. Tom Hanks only makes good war films. So you really can’t go wrong with this true story about a perilous journey across the Atlantic dodging deadly U-boats for a fleet of warships and supply vessels heading to England. Brilliant action 8/10
Runaway Jury (Disney +)
Sometimes when I’m searching for a new watch I just go back over an old movie. And it doesn’t have to be a classic. As this watch proves.
It’s a good solid film, with a cracking cast and an interesting storyline.
The big question is what has John Cusack been doing lately? I always really liked him and he seemed to have a knack of choosing good movies 7/10
Fresh (Disney +)
Imagine a mix of the TV series Hannibal with the Mads Mikkelsen mashed up with the Morgan Freeman/Ashley Judd flick, Kiss the Girls. Well that’s Fresh.
It shouldn’t work, and as a serious movie it doesn’t. But as a bit of daft light entertainment it’s better than it should be. I’ll give it a 6.5/10. I’m feeling kind.
