Inspired by the genius comic, Stewart Lee, I’ve decided to keep a record of all of my TV, film and cinema viewing throughout 2022. Plus, I will write a micro review for each one and list where I watched it.
If you’re like me you’re always on the hunt for a quality watch in and amongst some very average fayre.
So, these recs and ratings might be useful to you.
Here goes for September.

A lighter than normal month for me as I was unplugged in Dorset midway through the month.
Cinema
Moonage Daydream
What a spectacular piece of work by American film maker Brett Morgan. An absolute visual work of art, all two hours 15 minutes of it, charting the incredible life of David Bowie. Now I’m not the biggest Bowie fan – I mean I love some of his classics, and Heroes would land in a top 100 favourite songs list if I ever pulled one together. But for me watching the movie was really a chance to find out more about the man. What I learned was that he was way, way more than just a musician and actor – he was an artist, a dreamer, an explorer and a traveller. My partner is a huge Bowie fan and I can tell you that the film made her cry. It’s a hard one to rate because of all of this. I’ll give it a 7. But if you’re a big Bowie fan (you should definitely go see it on the biggest screen possible if you are) you’ll score it a 9 or 10 I’m sure.
TV
Succession (Now TV)
Seasons 01 and 02:
I instantly loved this show. I’m late to it and if you are too it’s the tale of media magnate, Logan Roy, played by the stellar Brian Cox, and his scheming, grifting family who are all intent on selfishly eeking as much out of the family business pot as possible and claiming top prize in succeeding the ageing Logan as boss of the family company behemoth. It’s a brilliant cast and I swerve during every episode on who is the most unlikable character in the show. Two episodes comms pros will especially love feature the family re-writing the questions asked by staff of management (because they weren’t the right questions) and the superb son, Kendall, who doesn’t want to tell his PR agents their job and then proceeds to do just that. Just brilliant 8.5/10
Crossfire (iPlayer)
This was an OK watch but I confess to getting a bit bored with it and fast forwarded the last episode to the ending 5.5/10
Showtrial (iPlayer)
Enjoyable murder court drama. A spoiled student and daughter of a rich property developer is arrested on suspicion of murdering her university classmate in a trial that becomes the focus of the national media 7/10
I came by (Netflix)
An entertaining watch. Great to see Hugh Bonneville playing a baddie for a change 6.5/10
