Digital and Design Communications Officer

South and Vale Councils

Location: Abbey House, Abingdon

Permanent

Salary Details: £37,870 - £44,747

Hours Per Week: 37

Closing date: 23 April 2026

About The Role

Why join us

We believe in putting our people first – we work hard every day to make sure everyone can achieve a healthy and enjoyable work-life-balance. That is why we have a very flexible hours system.

We are seen as being customer focused, approachable and business-like. We are honest and open and are renowned for providing high quality cost-effective service.

About the role

This role is responsible for creating high‑quality digital and design communications that help residents understand and access council services. You’ll produce engaging visual content for both print and online channels, transform longer-form information into clear, accessible formats, and support campaigns that promote council priorities. Working closely with colleagues, you’ll develop creative concepts, capture photography and video at events, and ensure all outputs reflect the council’s brand and accessibility standards. The role also involves managing multiple design requests, organising digital assets, and maintaining an up‑to‑date understanding of best practice in digital communication and design.

Essential criteria for the role

Key responsibilities for the role

  • Design and produce engaging print materials—including leaflets, posters, and other collateral—to clearly communicate council services such as waste collection calendars.

  • Create accessible, on‑brand digital assets for websites, social media, and email campaigns, and adapt longer-form content into concise, impactful copy and visuals for online channels.

  • Capture and produce high‑quality photography and video, attending in‑person events across the districts and editing content for use on web, social media, and wider campaigns.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop creative concepts for campaigns and projects, ensuring all outputs align with council branding, visual identity, and accessibility standards.

  • Manage and organise multiple design requests and digital assets, prioritising workflows, maintaining best practice, ensuring correct usage rights, and complying with legislation including data protection and equality standards.

A full list of the duties this role provides, as well as the benefits we offer, can be found within the job description.

Please note that we do not hold a sponsor licence and are unable to support visa applications. To be considered for this role, you must already have the legal right to work in the UK. If you are unsure about your eligibility, please refer to the UK Government’s guidance before applying.
