Tens of millions of pounds have been secured to transform Walsall, and we are looking for a talented communications professional to join our team to tell the story of our people, our place and our council.

Our team has an important role to play in this. Due to an internal promotion, we need a Press and Media Officer for our busy Press Desk who will work closely with local, regional and national media to raise awareness of the council’s work and promote the positive results the council is achieving across all its services.
The candidate:
We are looking for an experienced communications professional with strong writing skills who can generate and place good news stories to enhance the reputation of the council.
Researching and writing news releases and responding to media enquiries will be at the heart of this role, alongside developing contacts and building relationships with journalists.
You’ll also be creative and able to develop ideas to tell the council’s story and create engaging content for social media and marketing campaigns.

This role may also be suitable for journalists looking to develop a career in public sector communications.
Key responsibilities include:
Handling media enquiries.
Researching and writing press releases and liaising with relevant officers, senior managers and Members.
Supporting project teams and assisting with the planning and delivery of communications and marketing campaigns.
Creating engaging multimedia content for social media.
